RESEARCH IN ANTARCTICA

NATHANIEL B. PALMER
Research Vessel

The Nathaniel B. Palmer is one of two vessels owned by the United States Antarctic Program and used for marine Antarctic reserach. The Palmer is well suited to sail in what can be rough and stormy Antarctic weather and its ice breaking capabilities also allows the vessel to sail through ice-covered seas that completely surround the Antarctic continent. This ship is well equipped for the comfort of the near 60 people it can carry, as well as for the tools, equipment, and other scientific needs of the researchers on board.
Living and working on board the Nathaniel B. Palmer offers a unique wat to appreciate the beauty of Antarctica: from its rich marine life and the majesty of its drifting icebergs, to the seemingly never-ending horizons of the ice sheet edge.
