Mt. Paterson Installation
Our first seismic installations of the 2007-2008 season began quite normally. A one-day delay, then an LC-130 flight to Siple Dome where we installed the first station on snow. Read more...

Need more cowbell….
Yesterday morning at 1:45 am we piled off to the US Antarctic Program passenger terminal at the Christchurch airport in New Zealand. I’d had about 4 hours sleep so was feeling a little groggy, but not too bad. We managed to get changed into our cold weather gear and were on the C17 transport plane by 2:30am. I was glad that we were on the jet, rather than the Hercules prop plane, the jet is way faster and has a cavernous interior. With only 30 or so of us on board there was plenty of room to spread out too. Read more...

How is it all done?
Installing the GPS equipment takes an enormous amount of planning, a lot of logistical support, creative minds, and fair amount of human get up and go.

Polenet Starts to Install GPS Systems at Brimstone Peak

Brimstone Peak, Antarctica.
-4F, Clear Skies
Brimstone is about the same distance away from McMurdo as Westhaven, only to the north. The site install went well (although we will need to go back to finish up one more item) and the weather was great again. Again, about -20C and not too much wind. Really ideal conditions for about 7,500 ft. but still tiring to move all that equipment. Read more...
